Honoring Juneteenth:
Freedom in Christ and History
On this Juneteenth, we pause to remember the day when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, finally received word of their freedom on June 19, 1865-two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day of remembrance, celebration, and renewed hope.
As believers, we recognize that true freedom comes from Christ. While Juneteenth marks a historical liberation, it also reminds us of the spiritual freedom we have in Jesus-a freedom from sin, shame, and anything that binds us.
Let us honor our ancestors, continue the work of justice, and walk boldly in the liberty that Christ provides.
Happy Juneteenth!
